Stump Grinding in the Hill Country
That stump you mow around in your Circle C backyard — or the twenty cedar stumps on your new Dripping Springs acreage — gone, ground below grade, raked clean.
Old stumps invite carpenter ants and termites, sprout suckers all summer, and block re-sodding or replanting. Our self-propelled grinders fit through a standard 36-inch gate, which matters in terraced Lakeway backyards and zero-lot-line sections of Legend Oaks where a truck-mounted rig will never reach.
We grind 6–12 inches below grade — deep enough to re-sod, replant, or set a fence post — then rake the chips into the hole or haul them off, your choice. Send a photo with a tape measure and we can usually quote by text within the hour.
What stump grinding costs
Most residential stumps run $100–$250; large oak stumps over 30 inches run $250–$450. Multi-stump discounts matter here more than most places: cedar clearing and oak wilt removals tend to leave stumps in batches, and grinding twenty on one acreage visit costs far less per stump than twenty visits.
One Hill Country note: on thin-soil lots the grinder sometimes meets limestone before it meets 12 inches. We grind to rock honestly, tell you what we found, and price accordingly — nobody should pay for depth that does not exist.

Stump Grinding — FAQs
Can I plant a new tree where the stump was?
Yes — we grind deeper and haul out the chips on request so you can backfill with soil. Offset the new tree a couple of feet from the old root plate, and we can recommend species that handle limestone soil — Texas red oak, cedar elm, and Mexican white oak all do well here.
Will grinding damage my septic system or sprinkler lines?
We walk the area with you first — critical on Dripping Springs and Driftwood acreage where septic fields are everywhere. For stumps near easements we call 811 before grinding.
Do live oak stumps keep sprouting after grinding?
Live oaks sucker from roots, so a few sprouts in the lawn are normal for a season — mowing kills them off. We grind the flare and major laterals to minimize it.
Storm damage? Leaning oak? We answer 24/7 across Dripping Springs and neighboring suburbs.
